IAAS Recent Activities
Here are some of our recent activities:
Space Sciences Team
The students of the IAAS frequently collaborate with NASA and other space sciences organizations on research projects.
Projects currently in progress:
- The Radio Jove project {Jupiter data acquistion}.
- The GAVRT Program {Quasar tracking}.
- The students successfully tracked and recorded data from Quasar 3C 48 and Quasar 0059+581, both about 10 billion lightyears away.
Aerospace Sciences Team
The Aerospace Sciences Team students are reaching for the skies with their projects...
- Built a full scale flying replica of the World War I French Fighter - Morane Saulnier type N - in the school's aircraft hangar.
- Actively building and flying RC Aircraft.
- Building and flying model rockets of all shapes and sizes.
Communications Team
The IAAS Communications Team is responsible for providing communications for team projects and activities.
- We have several students studying for their Amateur Radio licenses.
- We are also constructing tower and antenna systems for HF, digital and satellite communications.
- The IAAS founded the Tuesday Night Colorado Astronomy Net on the Rocky Mountain Radio League's 146.940 mhz repeater. Join us at 7 PM Mountain time.
Education and Outreach Team
Our teams participate in numerous outreach events eact year including:
- Northwest Coalition Fair
- Star Labs at North High School as well as other area schools, community organizations and Local, Regional, State and National Parks.
- Assisting Weld County with tours at the Greeley, CO Nuclear Missile Site Museum.
- Participating in Amateur Radio Field Day using our club call sign WØNHS
- Boy Scouts of America Expos.
We are always looking for new High School Students (9th-12th grade) to join our Astronomy, Archaeoastronomy, Radio Astronomy, Aviation, High Power Rocketry, and Ham Radio Teams.
